Types of Group Homes

Types of Group Homes

Group homes serve as residences for unrelated people who are unable to care for themselves independently, or need supervision due to behavioral problems. From the outside, most group homes look like typical houses in a residential neighborhood.
.Developmentally Disabled
Developmentally disabled individuals have permanent disabilities that cause mental and/or physical problems that prevent the person from living independently and caring for himself. Group homes encourage as much independence as is feasible and safe for these individuals.
Youth Homes
Group homes also serve abused and neglected youth and runaways as a shelter. Youths who have committed criminal activities may reside in a more restrictive group home as an alternative to prison, or as part of parole conditions.
Substance-Abuse Recovery
Similar to a halfway house, another type of group home helps recovering addicts overcome their addiction and re-enter society as functional individuals while offering appropriate monitoring and support.
Low-Income Group Homes
Some group homes serve special populations with low income, such as the elderly and teenage mothers and their children.
Community Opposition
Regardless of the type, many homeowners oppose group homes in residential neighborhoods, as they fear they will cause crime and/or plummeting home values. Group home administrators say these fears are unfounded. (See Reference.)

Indian Housing - HUD's Office of Native American Programs (ONAP)
The Department of Housing and Urban Development's policy to promote the general welfare by meeting the national goal of providing decent, safe and affordable housing for lower-income Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian families is administered by the Office of Native American Progams (ONAP).
ONAP ensures that safe, decent and affordable housing is available to Native American families, creates economic opportunities for Tribes and Indian housing residents, assists Tribes in the formulation of plans and strategies for community development, and assures fiscal integrity in the operation of the programs.

The Department is committed to vesting in Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) the maximum amount of responsibility for administering their housing programs. To accomplish this objective, the Department consults with American Indian and Alaska native governments, TDHEs and national Indian and Native Hawaiian organizations when developing legislation, regulationis and policies that affect tribes.

The Department also encourages the development of mutually beneficial partnerships designed to assist Native Americans by expanding homeownership and affordable housing opportunities; empowering residents of Indian housing through the creation of jobs and economic development opportunities; enforcing fair housing opportunities; making Indian housing development drug-free; and helping to end overcrowding and homelessness.

what are they saying about dog grooming?

Typical costs:
For small breeds or mid-sized breeds that do not have thick hair or require a complicated cut, grooming costs about $30 to $50. Examples include the Bichon Frise, Miniature Poodle, Maltese, Cocker Spaniel and Labrador Retriever.
For mid-sized breeds, or larger breeds that do not have thick hair or require a complicated cut, grooming costs about $50 to $70. Examples include the Wheaten Terrier, Collie, Afghan Hound, Chow Chow and Golden Retriever.
For mid-to-large-sized breeds that have thick hair and require complicated cuts, or giant breeds, grooming costs about $70 to $90 and up. Examples include the Standard Poodle, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bouvier Des Flandre, Briard, and Great Pyrenees.
Bath-only grooming -- with bath, ear cleaning and nail trimming -- on a non-matted dog costs less than full grooming -- usually 50 to 75 percent of the price. This is most common for dogs with very short hair.
Average grooming prices tend to be about 25 percent higher in the Northeast region of the country than in the Midwest, with the rest of the country falling in between, according to PetGroomer.com.
What should be included:
The groomer usually bathes and dries the dog, cleans the ears, trims the nails, and clips the hair into a particular style.
Additional costs:
De-matting for long hair costs about $7 to $9.
For $3 to $10 extra, a groomer will use flea-killing shampoo or skin-soothing colloidal oatmeal shampoo or do a hot oil treatment.
For about $10 extra, a groomer will remove skunk odor.
For about $10 to 20 extra, a groomer will brush teeth or express the anal glands.
Hand cutting, which is time consuming, costs between $10 and $30 more than using clippers, depending on the size of the dog. It offers a different look.
Mobile grooming clinics charge a convenience fee -- about $10 to $15 extra.
Discounts:
A puppy groom can cost as little as $10.
Some groomers have referral programs, where a client can earn free or discounted grooming.
Tip: At-home grooming costs very little. For dogs that require trimming, professional-grade clippers and scissors can be a wise investment for between $50 and $150. Dressler's Dog Supply offers a range of professional tools, and Amazon.com offers videos and DVDs on dog grooming starting at about $25.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has an at-home grooming guide.
Shopping for a dog grooming:
To find a groomer, ask fellow dog owners, your veterinarian or a humane organization. Or, contact the National Dog Groomers Association of America.
Tip: Before making an appointment, stop by the facility to check cleanliness and meet the groomer. It is important to make sure pets are checked on regularly during cage blowdrying, or dried by hand, to prevent overheating. The Humane Society of the United States has a primer on choosing a groomer. Large chain pet stores, such as PETCO and PetSmart offer grooming services.
Groomers usually require proof that vaccinations are up to date.
Tip: Tell the groomer ahead of time if the dog is geriatric or has health problems or behavior issues. Many groomers will not accept aggressive dogs.
Tip: Before leaving the salon, make sure the groomer understands exactly what you want -- ideally by showing a photograph. Best Friends Pet Care has a primer on how to talk to a groomer as well as grooming tips with photos for many breeds.

How to Build a Mobile Dog-Grooming Vehicle

Another how to build a mobile vechile click this

From the Mobile Dog Groomer's View

The daily schedule for a mobile dog groomer is quite different than that of a shop-based groomer. The mobile groomer begins the day with a vehicle check. Is the water tank full? Is the propane heater full and working properly? Depending on the season, either the AC or the onboard furnace must be checked to assure it is operational. The mobile groomer must also be sure to carry extra fuses and a very long hose in case refills are needed, as well as all the necessary disposable grooming supplies, such as shampoo and conditioner.

Time equals money for a mobile unit. In the shop, the next dog and grooming fee are just a couple of feet away. The mobile dog groomer must often drive to another neighborhood to meet his next client, so fewer dogs can be groomed in a single day. This results in a grooming fee that is normally $10.00 to $15.00 more than the average shop fee.

The mobile groomer is also more accessible to the dog owners. This gives the advantage of being able to check what the customer wants, resulting in a customized groom. However it can also slow the groomer down significantly if the customer wants to hang around and chit chat. Many dogs will also struggle to return to the owner, making the grooming more challenging for the mobile groomer.
